Cute Pumpkin Coasters (Pattern)

Materials Needed

1 small skein 100% mercerized cotton yarn for your main color (or just regular cotton yarn–I like the mercerized because it makes it easier to work with and gives a nice sheen), and another brown for the stem

4mm crochet hook

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Scissors

2 stitch markers (optional but helpful!)

Abbreviations

Sc = Single Crochet
Dc = Double Crochet
Ch = Chain
St = Stitch
Sl st = Slip stitch
MR = Magic Ring
Blo = Back loop only
Rep = Repeat

Measurements

4in x 4in (counting stem in the height)
Gauge not critical for this project

Notes/Special Instructions

Each round of the body is written in A and B; for example, round 2 is split into 2a and 2b to indicate that each is one half of a full round.

Slip stitches are used to create the dimples in the pumpkin; stitch markers are highly recommended for this pattern to visually divide each side of the dimples.

I was in the mood for something quick to make, and something that summoned a bit of fall! Here in South Louisiana, we’re just about all desperate for it. Every time I look at these coasters I’m sustained just a little bit more until fall actually arrives.

This pattern uses a magic ring and working in the round with a twist–slip stitches are placed at the top and bottom of the pumpkin to create the classic dimples.

Time to make some coasters!

Round 1: 14dc in MR.

Round 2a: 2dc BLO in next 6 sts, sl st in 7th–place stitch marker here. (12 sts)

Round 2b: 2dc BLO in next 6 sts, sl st into beginning sl st, where you put your first stitch marker. (24 sts)

Round 3a: 2dc BLO in 1st st, dc BLO in next st, continue working *2dc BLO, dc BLO in next* until you get to where you put the stitch marker, sl st into this spot (18 sts)

Round 3b: Rep 3a (36 sts)

Round 4a: 2sc in BOTH LOOPS of 1st st, sc in BOTH LOOPS of next 2 sts, continue working *2dc BOTH LOOPS, sc in BOTH LOOPS of next 2 sts* until you get to stitch marker, sl st into this spot (24 sts)

Round 4b: Rep 4a (48 sts)

At last sl st, join yarn for stem

Ch 4.
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 2 more times, then sc in st adjacent to sl st on body of pumpkin
Turn, skip 1, sc in next 2, sc in last st of row, then sl st into underside of same st.

Fasten off and weave in ends. Happy Fall, Y’all!
